The Portuguese tax authority, Finanças, has ceased issuing physical NIF cards. The PDF document you received is sufficient as proof of your NIF, and you can disregard the expiration date on the document.

While the Portuguese Tax Authority no longer provides an official NIF card, you have the option to download and print a card via the Portal. This card is entirely optional but offers a convenient way to keep your NIF number accessible without needing to carry the full NIF document or remember the number.
If you believe this card would be beneficial for you, follow these steps to download it:
Step 1:
Log in to the portal das finanças by clicking here.
Choose the "NIF" tab, input your NIF number and password, then click "Autenticar".
Step 2:
On the top left, under "FATURAS", click on "CONSUMIDOR".
Step 3:
You'll be directed to a different page. Then croll all the way down and select "Obter Cartão E-Fatura" - A PDF preview will automatically open on a different page.
Step 4:
Download the PDF file (see example below), print it, and cut the card.
