Do I need to translate my documents?

When it comes to documents that are not in English or Portuguese, please be aware of the following guidelines:

  • One of our banking partners exclusively accepts documents in Portuguese, English, Italian, French, or Spanish.

  • Hence, if your documents, such as proof of address or proof of employment, are not in any of these languages, you must provide a certified translation of the documents in either English or Portuguese.

Certified Translation and Certification Entities

Schengen Area Customers:

For customers from the Schengen area, your documents can be certified by:

  • A lawyer, notary, or any Novo Banco branch located outside of Portugal.

Non-Schengen Area Customers:

For customers from other countries or residents outside the Schengen Area, your documents can only be certified by any of the authorized entities listed below:

  • Local entities with the Apostille of Hague.

  • Consulates and Portuguese Embassies.

The Schengen Area includes the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

To ensure smooth processing and adherence to the banking partner's requirements, providing certified translations of your documents in English or Portuguese is essential. Utilizing the services of the authorized entities for certification will ensure that your translated documents are appropriately recognized and accepted by the bank.
