Why become Portugal Tax Resident

After obtaining a Portuguese NIF (tax identification number) with tax representation, you may consider becoming a tax resident in Portugal for various reasons.

  1. Favorable Tax Regime

  2. Double Taxation Avoidance

  3. Wealth Tax Exemption

  4. Access to Tax Incentives

  5. Retirement and Pension Benefits

  6. Residence Permit Options

  7. EU Membership

It is important to note that each individual's circumstances are unique, and it is advisable to consult with a qualified tax professional or legal advisor who can provide personalized advice based on your specific situation and goals.

What does this have to do with my NIF from AnchorLess

Maybe I'm not concerned

There are specific countries that typically do not require individuals to appoint a tax representative when obtaining a NIF in Portugal. These countries are as follows:

  • European Union (EU) member states: Residents of EU countries are generally exempt from the obligation of having a tax representative for NIF registration in Portugal.

  • European Economic Area (EEA) member states: Similarly, residents of EEA countries, which encompass EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, are typically exempt from the requirement of a tax representative for NIF registration.

  • Switzerland: Individuals who are residents of Switzerland are generally exempt from the obligation of appointing a tax representative when applying for a NIF in Portugal.

If you are from one of this case, we are not your tax representative, so you won't be charge every year for tax representation, but if you move to Portugal you still need to become a Portuguese Tax Resident.

I'm concerned

If you already have a NIF with tax representation from AnchorLess, we are charging you annually for fiscal representation, becoming a tax resident in Portugal may offer you the opportunity to update your tax status and potentially eliminate the need for fiscal representation services, including the associated fees.
